I’ve driven the slowest Taycan and the fastest one and you know what? I prefer this one to the Turbo S.
The steering, now uncorrupted by any torque flowing through the front axle, is standout – if I was blindfolded and a flat-six backing track was played though the hi-fi I’d have sworn it was a rear-drive 911 Carrera. The weighting, the turn-in, the feedback – it’s all world-class. Steering like this makes a car feel well-engineered and expensive all on its own.
Feit is dat het model een super grote 4-deurs is met weinig praktisch nut. Meer een executive dan een gezinswagen. De mooiste moderne 4-deurs die er momenteel te koop is, dat wel.

This is the Porsche the whole family can enjoy without you feeling the need to show off the performance. This is all relative, too – it’s still a very rapid car, both off the line and from point to point.

Should I buy one?
I’d like more to do at the wheel than just go and stop and steer, but that’s the old-fashioned gearchange-and-engine-loving driver in me.
Of all the cars that don’t give you so much to do or to listen to, this is, for me, the most enjoyable on sale.
Porsche Taycan 2021 review – capable, desirable, but not lovable
The real disappointment is that, honestly, you’re not really minded to do so. Once you’ve felt the Taycan’s character play out, experienced its quiet, unruffled agility and rued that it does, indeed, get a bit scrappy at the limit without a limited-slip differential (make sure that’s a box you tick), there’s no great calling to go back and do it all over again. It’s a really lovely EV to zip around in and would be a fine thing in which to cover large distances if you trusted the charging infrastructure. But it’s not much more than that. It’s not thrilling. It’s impressive but not exciting or especially engaging. Take away the simply astonishing performance of a Turbo S or Turbo and you’re left with a car that feels meticulously honed but buffed almost free of character, too.
Still want that 911? Damn f**king right.

Just! Maar dat zal echt niet gebeuren, mijne bruine kan het niet trekken.
Ik heb sedert de verkoop van mijn Cayman ook geen dagelijkse auto meer. Maar ik kan over diverse beschikken, van mijn vader, dochter, vriendin en desnoods de poolwagen E-Golf op het werk (met corona probeer ik die laatste toch te mijden..). En ik rij ook vaak met de pedelec naar de werf. Duurt maar 10 minuten langer voor 25 km, soms zelfs maar even lang.
