Porsche: Geen model onder de Boxster

      door redactie Autovisie
      AMSTERDAM –

                Porsche 984 concept[/b]

Given a four-cylinder in prototype form before being blessed with a boxer-six in production trim was the 984, otherwise known as the ‘Junior’. Developed in the mid-80s, it was a precursor to the first-generation Porsche Boxster and was also a mid-engined roadster. Unlike its eventual production successor, though, it had a novel folding hardtop roof, which flipped back and away in the same manner as a Ferrari 575 Superamerica. Only one 984 was built.

                      Porsche-SEAT PS

In the beginning of 1980’s SEAT contracted Porsche to develop inline 4-cylinder engines for its models Ibiza, Malaga and Ronda.
In 1984 the Porsche-SEAT co-operation also led to a sports car concept called the PS. It was was supposed to be a small car (3675 mm long and 1100 mm high) with a transparent bubble roof. The low roof meant the headroom was sacrificed for the design. Naturally the supposed engine was the ‘system Porsche’ inline-4 with a 5-speed gearbox. The weight target was a low 880 kg.

                                one-off Porsche 959 cabriolet

                                959cab.jpg

One of the lucky blighters to get his hands on a brand new 959 road car in 1987 was Porsche racing driver Jürgen Lässig. But, in 1998, he had a sizeable shunt with an unfortunate Audi 80 on the Autobahn damaging the side and roof of his prized supercar.
German company Auto Becker bought the wreck, fixed it up and ripped its lid off in the process – transforming it into a slightly incongruous, ludicrously-quick convertible.
It was shown at the IAA in Frankfurt before a US collector took a fancy to it, swapping three million Deutschmarks for the one-off.
