Autoworld Brussels celebrates 50th birthday of the Porsche Targa
Exhibition : 50 years of Porsche Targa
1965, at the IAA in Frankfurt, Porsche presents the first Porsche 911 Targa to the audience. It will take another year before the first 911 Targa leaves the factory in December 1966. The concept of the Targa roof, was the idea of Ferdinand ‘Butzi’ Porsche, to combine the comfort of driving in a coupe with the pleasure of the open air driving of a Cabriolet. One of the most remarkable and striking characteristics of the first generation Targa’s was the aluminum roll bars combined with a leather roof, an idea that lasted till the Porsche 993 generation Targas were presented with an electrical glass sliding roof. In 2014 the Porsche 991 Targa with a roof style visibly comparable to the original Targa Roof has it’s world premiere at the International Car Show in Detroit.
The Brussels based car museum Autoworld brings a unique exhibition to celebrate the 50th birthday of the Porsche Targa, bringing together 7 generations of the mythical Porsche. From the first generation soft-window Targa’s to the brandnew Porsche 911 Targa 4S. The cars on display in the museum during the exhibition are part of the famous State of Art Collection, as well as some other private collections. 15 cars will be shown to the public, of which the following are confirmed to be on display.911 Targa Soft Window 2.0 1967

For the owners of a Porsche 911 Targa, Sunday September 27th may be a good opportunity to bring a visit to the exhibition. From 10am -12am, owners of a Porsche 911 Targa get free entrance to the museum and a reserved parkinglot by presentation of the carpapers (to prove they’re driving a 911 Targa). Next to that, State of Art presents a breakfast , and a gift bag, with an event poster, a ’50 years Porsche Targa’ sticker and a magazine.
