Voor velen is de Porsche 944 turbo CUP series onbekend. Het allereerste seizoen van de Porsche CUP series werd in Duitsland gereden in 1986 (met ook 1 race in Francorchamps, voor de start van de 24 uren). When Joe finished medical school and his residency in the late 1980s, his first purchase “of any consequence” was a 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Targa.
Nearly thirty years on, Joe still has his 911. The odometer shows a little over 51k miles. The paint is original. The original 15″ wheels have given way to OEM 16″ wheels, and the original steering wheel has been replaced by one from a 930. Apart from that, Joe’s 911 is pretty much as it was when he got it. To Joe, you’re either born with the love for cars or you’re not. This love really shows in how he cares for a car that’s been with him for three decades.
Joe’s 911 is not alone in his garage. These days the Targa is joined by a silver Ford GT, appropriately enough. It seems though that Joe’s love for his car is bound to last a lifetime.

There were two “Hippie” Porsches in 1970, a 911 ST and Porsche 917. Gérard Larrousse, the man who drove the 917 to 2nd place at Le Mans in 1970, was additionally tasked with driving this smaller and lighter version 911 ST in the Tour de France that same year. Finishing in 3rd place, the Hippie 911 ST was the first Porsche across the finish line behind the much more powerful Matras. At only 780 kilos (1720 lbs) this is the lightest Porsche 911 ever built by the factory and recently came out of a 5-year restoration by Historika. In this film Larrousse, is reunited with the Porsche 47-years later and we discover that it holds a special place in his heart – and not just because of the race.
